Jill Bellac is the latest Swiss DJ to make a name on the global scene, as he follows in the footsteps of some of the scene’s most cherished names. A confident producer, Bellac makes the sort of tech-house that’s very in vogue recently, and there’s no reason really why we won’t be writing about him five years from now. We put some questions his way recently, as talked up early musical experiences, Roger Federer and more…
What’s your earliest ‘musical’ memory?
I don’t know how old I was, but that was when I got my first CD player. There were lots of buttons and I had a lot of fun with them.
I had Micheal Jackson, Roxette, Guns N` Roses and Prodigy CD`s. My parents came in to my room to turn the volume down all the time. So yeah, they’re my first musical memories.
What was it that drove you to get into the music industry?
It wasn’t really planned to be honest. My interest in music came very early. I guess as a baby the people around me noted that I didn’t cry when music was playing. I think it`s been an inevitable development. And nowadays I produce music in my own studio, that’s beautiful.
Who have been the most influential people in your musical development?
This are many musicians. As I said I started to listen Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers and many other artist at the beginning of my musical life. Afterwards the electronic music came. I started Djing , then had my first little gigs. I admired many cool Swiss DJs such as DJ Antoine who played the most amazing Tech House sets to this time.I couldn’t even enter clubs here because I was too young so I started to collect tapes and listen to them sustained.
Who inspires you outside of music?
I would say that’s the king of tennis and my compatriot Roger Federer. He`s just amazing and makes many Swiss people proud and ambitious. Next to his cool personality, it`s an enjoyment to watch this guy playing tennis. I was not really interested in this sport before he came. I think he made a lot of people watch tennis around the world, it`s just impressive how he coined this kind of Sport. I’m just watching Wimbledon and keeping my fingers crossed!
What is the best event you’ve appeared at and why?
That was a small event in Basel. The people screamed from the first kick until the last. That’s what every Dj wishes for and I’m really happy that I could experience this. Of course there are also a few bigger events where I played in front of a sea of people. Sure they’re impressive experiences as well.
If you could collaborate with ANYONE in the world (past or present) who would it be and why?
I’m a party tune producer and there are many outstanding singers in this world who I admire. But it`s too difficult the name you an only one. But a collaboration with Maceo Plex would be a big honor.
If you weren’t in the music game, what game would you be playing?
If I could turn back and the music wouldn’t exist, I would give everything to be a professional sportsman. I guess I would try playing tennis.
Who gives you the most support in your life and work?
I think that’s my family, especially the smallest members of it. My little niece and my new born nephew as they fill me with happiness. Unfortunately I have no girlfriend at the moment so I give all my love to my family and to my music. Also my real friends make an important part in my life.
If you only had 3 months to live, what would you want to do with them?
Wow what a question! If there would be any discrepancies with people I would try to clarify everything. I would try to enjoy the rest of my life and spend as much as possible time with the people close to me.
