09/06/2018|London's Southport Weekender Festival @ Finsbury Park

After hosting their very first London festival last year, one of the UK’s most loved parties Southport Weekender has revealed the line-up for its sophomore edition on Saturday 9th June. Returning to Finsbury Park for a celebration of house, soul, R&B, garage and disco, the one-day festival will welcome a wealth of respected artist’s to the capital, featuring performances from Sister Sledge, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Jazzie B, David Morales and many more.

Curated by a team of music lovers that have ensured Southport Weekender’s legacy has spanned over 30 years - their weekend events of the same name ran for 28 years and hosted 52 parties in total before the finale show in 2015 - the reimagined format upholds the legendary vibe the brand is renowned for. Known as ‘the world’s friendliest party’, the upcoming London edition will be spread across nine arenas that represent a wealth of musical history, bringing together pioneering DJs, live music and the next generation of artist’s flying the flag for house and soul music.

In a London festival exclusive, founding member of American group Sister Sledge, Kathy Sledge, will perform live, backed by a huge catalogue of hits including “He's the Greatest Dancer", "We Are Family" and "Lost in Music". Further stateside talent is reflected in headliners DJ Jazzy Jeff and one of the godfathers of house music David Morales, who will celebrate 30 years of his Def Mix Recordings imprint alongside Hector Romero and special guests Juliet Roberts, Robert Owens and Alison Limerick who will each perform a selection of live classic songs. Soul II Soul frontman Jazzie B will also be present, alongside disco selector Joey Negro plus classic house acts Louie Vega and Roger Sanchez, with the likes of Henrik Schwarz and Osunlade heading up the festival’s more eclectic offering, plus new wave talent Henry Wu and Alexander Nut.

An uplifting appearance from the London House Gospel Choir is also confirmed, while UK Garage innovators The Dreem Teem are among a slew of names representing the genre. London collective So Fresh So Clean will bring their selection of classic 90s hip-hop to Finsbury Park, while radio station Mi Soul will showcase a range of dynamic artists across soul music, house and reggae.

With Southport Weekender amassing such a loyal fanbase over the last three decades, standard tickets for the London festival are already on fourth release. VIP passes are also available, plus an extra special VVIP package which allows festivalgoers backstage access and the opportunity to meet artists in the green room area.
