Fantasy Island @ Camino (Recommended Event)
TREVOR FUNG [Project Club, Amnesia]
& resident RICHARD NORRIS
Fantasy Island reaches its final event as part of its Balearic inspired series with guest DJ Trevor Fung joining resident DJ Richard Norris on Friday 26th March. The free party takes place at Camino - the Spanish bar and restaurant in the heart of King’s Cross.
Trevor Fung was there at the birth of acid house (you could even argue he was its midwife). An early devotee of Ibiza, he used to mentor Paul Oakenfold. It wasn’t until a visit in 1987 that he and Oakenfold began DJ’ing in a club on the Island, gradually making it a cosmopolitan hot spot for their Balearic style of mixing pop and indie-rock with house. In the late 80’s Fung would journey back to London for the huge one-off events. He continues to DJ at locations all over the world.
Since November, Fantasy Island has brought you the very best in Balearic beats once a month and featured an array of DJs firmly associated with Ibiza; in addition to Camino’s great food, atmosphere and drinks. Whether you’re attending straight after work or making Fantasy Island your destination of choice for the evening, you won’t be disappointed - you can eat tapas at the bar, have a sit down meal in the restaurant, simply drink, dance or even brave the winter chills by making the most of the amazing outdoor courtyard.
Previous Fantasy Island guests have included Cosmo, Andy Carroll, Latin Dub Sound System, Phil Mison, Pete Hebert, Mo Morris and Jon Pleased who have all joined FI resident Richard Norris.
Richard Norris was the first journalist to write about the Balearic scene in the UK music press, when NME ran his article on Ibiza in the late eighties. He was also in The Grid, who released a string of hit dance singles including the million-selling ‘Swamp Thing’. Richard has DJ’ed in Ibiza at Manumission, Space, the Underground, Manumission Motel and the Rock Bar. He was a panellist at 2008 and 2009’s Ibiza International Music Conference, regularly DJs around Europe, and records with Erol Alkan as Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve, and as a solo artist as The Time and Space Machine (Tirk Records). The Grid’s ‘Floatation’ - a Balearic classic - will soon be re-released on New State.
There is a free 11 track promo CD ‘Viva Camino Vol 3: Fantasy Island; 100% Balearic Beats’, compiled by Richard, available free for the first 100 people on each night. The CD features tracks from the cream of the new European Balearic scene.
